NEW IN THE COLLECTION – JOSEPHINE TURALBA

I first met Josephine at an artist dinner hosted by our dear friends Katie and Georges de Tilly from 10 Chancery Lane Gallery in Hong Kong, and we had an intense discussion about the tensions in the South China Sea in context of the gallery’s show „Beauty Will Save the World“. Josephine is an interdisciplinary Filipino artist known for her thought provoking works around geopolitical tensions and social issues. Context was also that I had travelled extensively to the Philippines during 2024 and hence got more closely connected to the country and its people. The work „Typhon“ which we acquired for our collection is typical for Turalba’s work: one the one hand it depicts in almost naive manner the beauty of the South China Sea; and on the other hand, when taking a closer look, you can see the bullets used and the political signals of the conflict. Our collection’s objective is to look at Asia’s political and social issues through the lens of art – and in this spirit this work fits perfectly.
