NEW IN THE COLLECTION – HUANG RUI „KEKKAI“

Huang Rui, a founding member of the „Star Group“, is one of China’s most esteemed artists, known for his intellectual exploration of history, music, politics, and the world. What distinguishes him is his ability to distill complex ideas into simple, accessible forms. His artistic vision transcends aesthetic beauty, aiming to provoke thought, challenge conventions, and inspire dialogue. We are excited to now add a 3rd work of Huang Rui into our collection, this time from his „Kekkai“ series.

The term „Kekkai“ comes from Japanese (meaning barrier or boundary) and represents the artist’s conceptual „sealing“ or „boundaries“ placed on rigid political, economic, and historical ideologies. In this spirit the ideology is „sealed off“ through these works. The ink represents the permanent residue of these doctrines, while the raw stone serves as an anchoring, grounding element representing enduring physical nature.
