NEW IN THE COLLECTION – SUNG NEUNG KYUNG

Sung Neung Kyung is a pioneering figure in Korean conceptual and avant-garde art, using non-traditional materials like newspapers to transform everyday moments into profound artistic statements. His work was featured, for example in the Guggenheim Korean Experimental Art Exhibition and in a recent solo show in the Seoul Art Sonje Center. „Reading Newspaper“ is a participatory performance where audiences read newspapers under his instruction, and then Sung cuts out key messages turning the paper into a lasting artistic message. As a vivid newspaper reader, still enjoying the feel of paper, I was excited about this work for our collection. Special thanks to Shasha Tittmann from Lehmann Maupin gallery for the counsel in the acquisition.
